About
Meet Robert
Father. Case Worker. Resilience Guy. Bonsai Whisperer.
Hey, I’m Robert. Welcome to the space I wish I’d had years ago, a calm corner of the internet for people who are trying to breathe again, reset, and rebuild.
I’m a father of four boys (two of them are twins, yes, it’s as wild as it sounds), a big fan of strong coffee, dark chocolate, strength training, and pruning tiny trees with big patience. I walk the path of wellbeing not as an expert in a lab coat, but as someone who’s been through it.
Where I’ve Been
(The Part You Won’t See on Instagram)
I’ve spent the last 10 years working with people facing homelessness, addiction, and deep emotional hardship. I’ve sat across from folks who’d lost everything and still found the strength to keep going. That kind of courage leaves a mark on you.
But I’ve also had to find that courage in my own life. I have been forced to ask some of the toughest questions.
How do we heal?
How do we stay grounded when life feels unmanageable?
How do we build something steady again — emotionally, physically, spiritually?
What I Believe
I believe wellbeing isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence.
Showing up, even when it’s messy. It’s about quiet strength, not loud motivation, It’s about building roots, not just chasing results, and when the going gets tough, above all holding on and believing that there is a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
Sometimes that means a mindful walk in the bush, or journaling through old wounds. Sometimes it’s just making it to the end of the day.
Here, you’ll find practical, no-fluff content on:
- Managing stress and anxiety (especially as a parent or professional)
- Emotional healing after hard seasons
- Building routines that restore, not exhaust
- Journaling, mindfulness, and movement, from a real guy’s perspective
My Tools of the Trade
- A bonsai tree (or six)
- Dark chocolate and good coffee
- Strength training
- Journal + pen
- Nature walks with my boys
- Guided meditations (yes, even the cheesy ones sometimes work)
Why I Built This Site
Because there’s already too much noise online.
I wanted to create a space that felt safe, steady, and useful.
Not clinical. Not preachy. Just honest.
If even one blog post here helps you take a deep breath, feel less alone, or try something that actually works — then this space has done its job.
A Personal Note from Me
A few years ago, I hit a wall.
I experienced burnout so deep that it led to depression, anxiety, and a complete breakdown of the life I once managed with ease. I couldn’t work. I struggled to find joy in the simplest things. I felt lost, disconnected, and exhausted, not just physically, but soul-deep.
That chapter of my life taught me some of the hardest lessons I’ve ever faced. But it also sparked a quiet determination to rebuild. I began learning, slowly, how to restore my energy, protect my peace, and gently reclaim myself piece by piece. Sometimes it felt like one step forward and two steps back. But through mindfulness, rest, better boundaries, and a lot of self-compassion, I found my way back to wellness.
Now fast forward to the present day, I have worked in the homelessness sector for almost 10 years, and I feel better than ever. Calm Living Today is my way of giving back. It’s a place where I share everything I’ve learned, in the hope that it helps others avoid the same dark road I walked. Whether you’re here to find calm, reset your habits, or just breathe a little easier, I’m truly glad you’ve found your way here.
Let’s walk this path together — with gentleness, clarity, and heart.
